Day No. 4 – Measures

Another day at the shop. Unfortunately, the snow is melting and with it, bringing horrible leaks in the ceiling. This has been long pointed out to the building owner and was a constant problem for Dennis in his 30 year tenancy. Water is causing serious damage to the antique books, lawyers book cases, the safe, and mahogany desk. The family came over to help me cover everything in plastic and put up more buckets, but I am really terrified of what will happen if the roof is not fixed immediately. The floor has begun to buckle under the safe… and beneath the library sits the chemical room….

Trying to save the library
The ceiling above the safe

Dennis’s daughter has always said his knowledge came from reading the vast number of books in his library. Most of them are rare, old and out of print. More than books will be lost should this library be further damaged. I would move everything out, if I could, but there is nowhere for it to go… and it’s possible the floor is not sturdy enough to move the safe at this point.  I may try to build some supports to raise the furniture up off the floor to prevent the bases from further damage.

But I’m sure you came to see more beautiful objects and so…
